Holly + Tony's Home Remodel
Kitchen + Bath Renovation in Portland
We revamped a SE Portland 1960s ranch kitchen + living room + bathrooms for a family of 5.
The house had an open plan and retro ranch flavor that is rare for Portland and lends itself to easy, family-friendly living. The owners had one clear request for their kitchen: that the range be placed so they could look out to the living room and through to the back yard, and keep an eye on their small children.
The desire for something cheerfully different led to a Mediterranean-inspired tile palette, with ample daylight to play off the colors of the tile backsplash. An eat-in kitchen continues the retro feel, with vintage-reproduction furniture suit the era. A sunken living room, vintage marble fireplace, and new wool carpeting keep things cozy.
This project was published in Atomic Ranch magazine. *Three years after the kitchen + living room project, we remodeled the master bath + kids' bath.
Brady Bunch chic
A bold configuration of Heath Ceramics handmade ceramic tile makes a splash, adding to the vintage vibe of this '60s ranch.
The existing kitchen was gutted and opened up, to make way for the new.
The existing Carrara marble fireplace was a stepping stone(s) to a midcentury Italian–inspired approach to the project.
Old + new
We refinished the original built-in mahogany sideboard in the dining area, and reframed it in cherry wood to coordinate with the kitchen cabinetry. We also gave the sideboard new custom cherry pulls, to match those in the kitchen.
Warm + cool
Mahogany vanities at the master + kids' baths add warmth to the bathrooms, while bold tile schemes keep things cool.
Fun + functional
The kids' bath gets a bright-orange budget-friendly tile (while their parents get handmade ceramic tile). But neither bathroom skimps on function and attention to detail.
After interior remodeling was complete, the exterior of the house asked for a refresh...
New paint color, new porch slab, new columns and house numbers transform the exterior.
