Mary + Adam wanted more connection and openness in their 1940s home. The tight galley kitchen—with tired finishes—was cut off from a cramped dining area, making cooking and entertaining awkward. Opening up the two rooms was a natural move. Now visible from the dining area, the new kitchen presented an opportunity for "a fresh face."

Rather than placing color in the backsplash tile, we used a two-tone scheme for the cabinetry, and let the tile join forces with the wall color. With its European pendant fixture over the dining table, the space gives a nod to the home's 1940s origins, while also being of the present.
