Portland Hills ADU
Garage + Accessory Dwelling Unit
Multigenerational living in SW Portland inspired an efficient above-garage accessory dwelling unit.
The new building was designed to blend seamlessly with the existing (per county regulations). The unit features a generous vaulted living/dining/kitchen space plus a large bedroom, a 3-piece bath and a small laundry/storage room. Its entry off the ground floor is independent of the garage and provides a space for taking off shoes and coats. Ample windows maximize the setting, with its particularly beautiful views of mature neighborhood trees.
Rooms with a view
The ADU makes the most of its location on the property, with views of mature trees from the living room and bedroom.
Bright + simple
Budget-friendly finishes and fixtures include pre-engineered wood floors and solid-surface countertops.
Clean + open
Instead of a range hood, we opted for integral downdraft, preserving the open connection to the living room—and views beyond.
Double the function
A new double garage beneath the ADU provides parking, and room for a separate entrance to the living unit.
